The Canon EOS 80d, love it or hate it.

I have been a big fan of Canon cameras for a few years now. Picked up my first DSLR in 2006 the Canon Eos 350d which still works till this day. Since I am into the business of video production I hire cameras like the the Canon C300, Sony A7sii, Panasonic Gh4, Canon 5d mkII/mkIII etc. But for my personal projects I would use a friends Canon Eos 60d, a camera that I grew to like even though not full frame. So I was dead certain that I would buy myself a 60d.

But then Canon launched the eos 70d which had a better sensor and an excellent autofocusing system. So after procrastinating on buying the 70d, I finally decided to pick it up in May 2016. A month or two prior to this date Canon launched the Eos 80d which had an even better autofocusing system, a new nano USM lens, a built in timelapse function and best of all allows you to shoot at 50fps at 1080p oh yes it also has a headphone input. But the prices online were too high. So I went to a shop and was about to lock on the 70d when I realised that there was a very small price difference between the 70d with an 18-135 STM and the 80d with the 18-135 nano USM. So I picked the obvious choice which was the Canon Eos 80d.

It has been five months now and I have used the Canon 80d on a few videos as a primary or secondary camera. And I am very happy with the colours and the autofocusing system. But yes it does not give you the option of 4k that canon should have added to this to compete with Panasonic and Sony who offer 4k on even entry-level cameras. The new nano lens focuses really fast and gives good colours but does have a few issues in sharpness, though for me the 24-105 f4 that you get with the 5d mk 3 is still the best kit lens for video.
The WiFi option is great as you can control everything, all the functions even the zoom if you buy the servo that fits on the lens.

Now getting to the time-lapse option. This camera lets you punch in your intervals in the camera itself unlike earlier models where you had to buy an interval meter remote to control the shutter. Not only that but it has a time-lapse in still mode like normal cameras where you take all the stills and put them together in post. But when in video mode, and this is the amazing feature, it stitches the files together and makes an mov or mp4 all within the camera itself.

Here is a small timelapse I shot in Goa.

The microphones on the camera are forward facing and decent but still can be improved though it's not a problem for me as I record on a Zoom H1 recorder.
Now all these features are great for this price point. But Canon, 4k! please!!! and something close to RAW video would help.
So my verdict is this is excellent for you tubers And for shooting videos on a budget. Also a great b-roll camera.
This camera is loaded with features, but I have touched upon those features that I enjoyed or hated.
My review is from a videographers point of view. Not too much of a photographer but from what I heard it's a mean machine for photography too.
Hope this review was helpful.

The prices vary a lot. Some places it's Rs 1,10,000 some places Rs 96,000 and I picked it up for Rs 89,000.
